This was my husband's parents' grandfather clock. It is a GMK Fancher - Melrose #301. It has mahogany veneers and solids with inlay and brass accents. It has 3 selections for chimes and also a silent mode.

It seems to run great. I am just looking to see what it is worth. I'm not looking to sell, keeping it as a heirloom to pass down.

I am not finding any prices I can actually quote you on this because the few that I have found that were sold will not disclose the price they sold for. Many of these clocks are sold at auctions. I did however find one clock that was listed back in 2012 and sold but they refuse to disclose the price it sold for. However, they are willing to give you information about the estimated value of the clock.

They are saying back in 2012 this clock value was $800-1200.

On another site, I see where they are saying that the clock could be worth $1000-3000. This was another auction site and the starting bid for this clock started at $1000 but then again they are not telling you if the clock actually sold or what it sold for.

This article says your clock is from 1978 and after, making it a vintage piece.

www.fancherchair.com/.../GMK-FANCHERCLOCKCOMPANY-1975to1985...

What a lovely heirloom to have and pass down!! Perhaps in the future it will increase in value.

One of the collectible forums I belong to just had a discussion this week about Grandfather and Grandmother clocks and it was sad.

The recommendation for them, especially good brands like Seth Thomas (and the GMK Fancher clocks like yours) is, if you are selling, to start high and take whatever someone will offer.

In some markets they can sell for $2500. In other markets the exact same clock will fetch $100. In a third market it may fetch $900.

If you are asking for insurance purposes, talk to your insurance agent and always follow their guidance for full replacement value (which is typically higher than "retail" value--meaning what you could sell it for if you sold it today).

I would doubt you would need a separate rider for it, but you can ask and see. Remember--if the value is $2500 (tops now and appreciation is low) figure out how many years you would be paying on it to get that value--if you pay 250 extra a year in 10 years you would have paid in the 2500 (if a rider was extra and you would get the same in a general replacement situation)--sometimes it is better just to put away your own money to save to replace on your own if needed vs. a rider).

It appears that people are still buying this clock. I have found an auction site that has sold a large number of these clocks. You need to register on the site in order to see what a person has paid for the clock. Here is the link if you are interested in registering on the site to see the prices people have paid for this clock. www.liveauctioneers.com/.../1968404_051082-sligh-trend-grandfather...

Here is another one that the asking price for the clock is $1750. Here is the link to the listing so you can check this one out. www.liveauctioneers.com/.../1968404_051082-sligh-trend-grandfather...

This grandfather clock still seems to be popular and I have seen a lot of them sold that were once listed online. However, I can't see the selling prices for these items. I tried to find a few that people were trying to sell but I have not found any that are the same style as yours. From what I have seen you can try to list this high around $1700 and go from there. Take the best offer if you are wanting to sell it now.

Grandfather clocks do not generally have the same value as they did even as late as the 90s but they are still selling - just slow sellers - may take months/years to sell especially considering that your location will have a big impact on the final value. Some areas may be in love with grandfather clocks while another area may not give one a second glance. These clocks are generally always listed as 'pick up only' as shipping would be costly and usually only done by stores.

Condition is a major concern and you do not mention if your clock is in good condition and/or if all functions are working properly.

Your clock does not have the 'fancy' top so be sure if you're looking at clocks for comparison prices that you're looking at a comparable style.
I believe your clock was made in the late 80s or early 90s (maybe 1990).
Here are some same or similar style clocks presently listed for sale. You can look at these clocks and hopefully gain information that will help you write a good description for your clock. Just remember, asking prices are just prices a seller would like to receive for their items and only a sold (identical) item shows value as it shows that someone was willing to pay that amount of money.
Using Sold prices for value is tricky as all large sold items will be in different areas than you and that good be good or bad for real value.
This clock the same style as yours and the asking price is $1,095 but has information about the clock.
www.clocksbychristopher.com/.../trend-by-sligh-triple-chime-grandfather...

This one is listed for $1,000 but notice the pick up area. You can place a watch on this one to see if it sells.
www.ebay.com/.../123241168554?_trksid=p2385738.m4383...

This one is listed at $400 - needs repairs:
www.ebay.com/.../203111421701?hash=item2f4a625705...

You can check out recently sold clocks on eBay to see what people are currently paying for similar clocks.
www.ebay.com/.../i.html?_from=R40&_nkw=Trend+sligh...

If you wish to sell your clock you may want to consider listing on sites like Craigslist, Facebook Marketplace, letgo, offerup, etc. You can start your price higher - maybe $1500 - with best offer considered and local pick up only. If you do not receive any offers you can lower your price.

I just learned something about Ridgeway not long ago that they were known for their furniture, not the clocks and the pieces were more valued for the cabinet than the clockworks. I found that interesting, but I am a furniture and vintage geek.

This particular model is dated (meaning style and look are very much the country revival look that was big in 1986). Unfortunately that dated look has caused this model to fetch less in the resale markets than some of the more classic styles.

Every market is different and furniture (this is a piece of furniture) values differ widely based on where you are located and supply and demand.

If it was mine, I would hold on to it until the country style comes back in vogue and then sell it. You will get more for it. I am thinking country style should be back soon...with all of this COVID crap, people are home more and I see a lot more farmhouse chic and rustic creeping into my Instagram and Pinterest feeds...so maybe keep watch of that trend and if you see it really taking hold, that would be the time to jump on the opportunity to sell focusing on the homey/farmhouse style of this piece!

Right now, in general, you could probably start at $1500 for the piece and depending on your market, take best offer which could be as low as $100.

As a long time resesller I can tell you I would not even begin to try to sell this myself. Most people are not going to have a safe way to get this from your home to theirs and since these pieces are very fragile, the transport is going to be a detractor to the sale.

If you are able to deliver it, I suggest investing in industrial bubble wrap to wrap it from top to bottom, then use multiple layers of moving blankets. Lay it flat on its back and handle it with 3 people--one for the top, one at the middle, and one at the bottom to prevent the piece from being jostled. If the pendulum detaches, do that, and if the glass comes out easy, remove it and transport it separately.

If you can get it to a consignment store or vintage furniture store, I would have them sell it for you and let them deal with the truck delivery to the new home (and hopefully getting it to their store).

You will have to split the profits with them, but it is the best no muss, no fuss way to sell something this large and fragile.

Post back what you decide!

I am not sure if you want to sell this locally or you are looking to sell this online. Selling online is a bit harder because it can take longer and you need to deal with shipping this off to the buyer. If you do happen to list this online you can state it is pick up only but then this limits the number of offers you get. There are people who have listed this clock for as low as $350 and as high at $1800. You can start off in the middle or on the higher end when you list this for sale. It is up to you to determine the least amount of money you will accept for the sale and if a person offers too little then you can determine if you want to sell it for this price or not. You can also try to list this on the Facebook marketplace it is a good place to start.

Did you look for the serial number label? It should be located on the back or the inside of the case, and it should be a "foil-like" label. The serial number might also have been recorded in the owner's booklet.
The serial number will give the year of manufacture as the first two digits.

Here is a listing for your exact clock, giving list price as $2152.50 and sale price of $1291.50:

Good luck selling your clock...it's a beauty !!!!

King Arthur grandfather clocks are not usually considered 'high value' as they were usually 'put together' clocks as parts (kits) were purchased from all over the world (they used German movements) and 'clock' people put them together.
The company was in business from 1983-1989 so this clock would probably have been purchased after 1983.
Company history:
"George Fowler helped to found the King Arthur Clock Company. First known trademark for King Arthur was registered on March 24, 1983 with Bobbye K. Fowler serving as president. This company never saw the same level of success as Emperor and was gone by the late 1980s. The span of King Arthur's business would not exceed the 1980s decade so clocks from this company tend to be uncommon. They used Hermle or Urgos movements."

Your model number may be located on the back of the frame or inside on the back of the clock. You will need this model number to be able to do research for value of your clock.
A Grandfather clock's value cannot be determined by listings/sales of similar clocks for several reason:
Model numbers can have completely different works as well as have different appearances and one style may be more popular than another.
Age can also make a difference.
Condition will rarely be the same for each clock.
Location: very important to value as these clocks are very expensive to ship and cannot be done buy a regular shipping company. They have to be properly dismantled and then properly put back together at the destination.
Here is a link that might explain how this can be a problem:
www.doityourself.com/.../356546-king-arthur-grandfather-clock...

You do not say if your clock is working so that is another factor.
Grandfather clocks are usually very slow sellers even at low prices.
This particular clock has been listed for sale - asking $350 - for almost 4 years (actually since 2017) and still has not sold.
www.ebay.com/.../324507056317?hash=item4b8e20b8bd...

This site offers an appraisal for $19 which may be something to think about as they will help you find your model number which will be a big help in determining value.
There are also other sites for an appraisal but this site specializes in grandfather clocks.

This piece should not be taken lightly! This is a great piece of history founded By John Bennett a clock and watch maker. Working well into his 60's he became a Sheriff in London and was knighted in 1872 to become Sir John Bennett. I would contact a professional for better answers for worth and insurance on such a fine piece. Here is a link - www.bhandl.co.uk/.../john-bennett-1814-1897.aspx

I am finding a lot of different clocks made by SirJohn Bennett of London for sale but I have not found a grandfather clock yet. The smaller clocks in good working order are starting at $280 and going up from there. I would actually recommend that you seek help from an antique dealer in your area. Not a lot of people have these clocks they are wanting to sell and this person can help you price this clock. We are basically can only search online and compare the prices that people are selling these items at. Considering I can't find one that anyone is selling online this makes it even harder to give you the value of the clock. I believe you need some professional help on this one.

We have a grandfather clock we need to sell kind of quickly. I am unable to send a picture at this point but it is a Howard Miller Model 660-220. I saw eBay and Craig's List are possible sites for reselling it but I do not know a reasonable starting price.

I will add that it was well taken care of by my father-in-law who recently passed. It is beautiful and in working order. He purchased it in 11/17/06.
