Practicing Math With Playing Cards

January 19, 2012

Kids playing with cards and learning mathI use a deck of cards to teach my almost 5 year old granddaughter math. She matched the numbers, matched the shapes and number order when she was 3-4. Now she uses the numbers to add and having the correct number of shapes on the cards, if she gets the answer wrong she can count the objects to get the correct answer. When she's old enough we'll do multiplication (of course then she won't be able to count the objects).

Practice children's addition facts with 2 regular decks of cards shuffled together. Then, like in the game War, both kids flip up not one but 2 cards at a time. Highest sum wins both cards.
