Naphtha is the chemical /vehicle that the manufacturers use when they make permanent markers. It is more solvent with inks and evaporates faster when using the marker so the ink does not get all over your project or you.
I remember always dong this when I was younger.. always had my felts in water.
When its an emergency to fix dried-out markers, you need some alcohol. Put some in a small bowl and dip the markers tip in it. Wipe the tip before you go back to writing or it will be runny or pale.
