What Material Is My Coffee Table?

I recently purchased this table from a private party and he said it was a unique Goa table from India, but it had this one mark on it already when I bought it. He didn't know what it was then. Since I've had it, all these little spots keep appearing and I'm assuming something I'm putting on the table is rubbing on it. I don't know how to protect it.

They seem to be made of kiln-dried mango wood. Wood can be protected with a plexiglass or glass top.
