I thought I should wash clothes after I wear them once, but I've read a few articles that say to not wash clothes so often. Besides, no matter how often I wash them, I'm still wearing the clothes, so no matter when I wash, I will wash a lot of clothing. Where do I put the "worn once's" if not in the hamper? Where do I air them out? Wouldn't using Febreze or something be just as costly as laundry soap? Putting them back into the closet seems like I would wear clothes a whole lot or mess up the clean clothes.

I think it depends on how long you wore the clothes and how dirty they became. I would always wash workout or gardening clothing, socks and underwear. Tank tops or t-shirts would depend on the weather. Skirts, pants and sweaters can often be worn a couple of times and "dry clean only" items could be worn a number of times with care.
Febreze isn't very expensive and it would cut down on the wear and tear of the clothing. This is a good alternative for those dry clean or delicate items. I have also heard people recommend isopropyl alcohol for items that can't be cleaned, like costumes.
To keep track, you could place the already worn clothing on one side of the closet, hang it in on a coat rack or in a separate closet. Some people will hang clothing on a hanger one way for clean, and another way for worn.
